About the event

Lotería Nights with the Alliance

Originating in 15th-century Italy before arriving in Mexico in the late 1700s, Lotería became a beloved household icon across Latin America. Unlike numerical bingo, Lotería uses a deck of 54 colorful cards featuring iconic folk symbols such as El Corazón (The Heart), La Sirena (The Mermaid), El Catrín (The Dandy), and La Palma (The Palm Tree).

Highlights & How Lotería Nights Work

• Grab Your Tabla & Frijoles: Each player gets a 4x4 card grid (tabla) and traditional pinto beans (frijoles) to mark matching spaces on their board.

• Listen to "El Cantor": The designated caller recites clever rhyming riddles or traditional poetic phrases for each drawn card (e.g., "El que le cantó a San Pedro..." - ¡El Gallo!).

• Multi-Generational Bonding: Grandparents, parents, and youth gather around the same tables, fostering language learning and intergenerational connection.
